12 Days of Giftmas  - December 2014

From 12 – 24th December, The BID ran a competition on Radio Ujima, described as ‘Bristol’s urban community radio station’.  Each day listeners had the chance to win vouchers from a great range of Bristol Shopping Quarter stores.

Christmas leaflet – December 2014

Once again this year, the BID contributed towards the popular leaflet which featured all of Bristol’s major Christmas events.  An ad featuring the Christmas markets was included in the leaflet.  75,000 copies were printed and distributed to hotels and attractions by Pear Distribution.

Christmas radio advertising – Nov / Dec 2014

The BID paid for a 4 week sponsorship of Heart FM’s breakfast show – this gave us the opportunity to promote all our Christmas festivities in Bristol Shopping Quarter.  A competition was also included in which 10 lucky listeners won a £250 shopping voucher.



Christmas lights switch-on event – November 2014

The BID joint funded the spectacular Christmas lights switch-on at Cabot Circus on 7th November.  A fantastic event saw Bristol Cathedral Choir welcome Santa in The Galleries, sing carols in Broadmead and end up in Cabot Circus.  An amazing acrobatic display wowed the crowds before the lights were switched on across Bristol city Centre.

Christmas markets – Nov / Dec 2014

The German Christmas market returned to Broadmead on 7th November and ran until 22nd December.  It was joined by a Local Christmas market outside Marks & Spencer from 4th – 22nd December.  Customer and retailer feedback was extremely positive.

Giant snow globe – Nov / Dec 2014

A giant snow globe was located outside St James Arcade from 14th November until 22nd December.  Customers were invited to enter the globe and have their photo taken.  This created some great press coverage as Bristol Mayor, George Ferguson launched the globe and members of the Pantomime cast and a look-a-like Elsa from Frozen were all snapped inside!

Christmas press advertising – Nov / Dec 2014 

We received great coverage for our BID-funded Christmas advertising campaign in the Bristol Post, Metro, Observer, Western Daily Press and the Weekend magazine.  Ads focussing on our Christmas events were also included in papers in Bath, Stroud, Gloucester and Somerset.

Student Selfie competition - October 2014

The BID worked in partnership with digital agency, Digital Visitor, to undertake a competition to drive more strudent footfall into Bristol Shopping Quarter.  Students were encouraged to upload a 'selfie' taken in the shopping area to be in with a chance of winning a host of great prizes including £250 shopping vouchers and a ride for 2 in a hot air balloon.

Late night student event - October 2014

To take advantage of the amazingly successful Cabot Circus Student Session, stores in Broadmead and The Galleries were encouraged to stay open in order to benefit from the additional footfall.  The BID funded a leaflet promoting retail offers which was handed out to students as they queued in Quakers Friars.

Customer Service course - September 2014

Broadmead BID businesses were invited to attend a workshop designed to improve the performance of their retail staff on 18th September. The course, funded by the BID, was reported to be a great success with excellent feedback given by all participants.  The one-day workshop offered a mix of customer service and selling skills; delegates were trained to understand the relationship with customers, manage interactions, build relationships for repeat business and use successful selling skills to boost profit.

Window vinyls brighten up BID area - August 2014

The BID funded some large, colourful, vinyls for the vacant shops on The Horsefair and Merchant St.  The vinyls promote what is available in Bristol Shopping Quarter as well as signposting other streets within the area.  They have helped to brighten up the units while the landords look for tenants to occupy them.


Find £1,000 in the sand! - July / Aug 2014

 Customers were invited to Bristol Shopping Quarter to try their luck at winning £1,000 by selecting a square on our giant map.  Five lucky people won £1,000 on Saturdays throughout the summer.  This campaign was supported by a five week radio ad on Heart FM.  Retailers also gave away some great prizes to be won on the day.

Lego-related fun - July / Aug 2014

The BID partnered with The Bristol Post on Thursdays - Sundays throughout the summer holidays.  Children were kept entertained with lego games, a lego trail around different shops and some great competitions.  Bristol Shopping Quarter was featured in advertising in The Post, Metro, Weekend and The Observer throughout this fun-filled campaign.

BID funded hanging baskets - June 2014

28 hanging baskets were installed at the start of June on shopfronts around the BID area.  These will be maintained, courtesy of the BID, throughout the summer, helping to brighten up the shopping area.


Covent Garden street performers return - May 2014

On 29th May, the BID team welcomed an all new line-up of top quality street performers.  The acts performed throughout the pedestrianised area from 11am - 4pm.  Performing amazing stunts, making fantastic balloon models for children and entertaining the crowds, the acts created a fantastic atmosphere in Broadmead.  This event was advertised on Heart FM and the Heart Angels were on site to add to the fun.

Easter 'Camel Caper' - April 2014

What is Easter without a hunt?  For the third year running children were invited to take part in a search for 26 decorated animals – this time camels! -  which took up temporary residence in shop windows within Broadmead and The Galleries from Saturday 5th April until Monday 21st April.

The camels were decorated by children from local primary schools and maps showing the location of the camels were available from The John Wesley Chapel (opposite Boots) and from Specsavers on Merchant St. On Saturday 5th, 12th and 19th April, children who had completed the hunt could attend free craft workshops in The John Wesley Chapel where they also received free chocolate.


Celebrate Easter (Peppa Pig)

Peppa Pig & Ben & Holly visit Broadmead - April 2014

On Saturday 12th April, Peppa Pig was outside Marks & Spencer and on Saturday 19th April, Holly & Ben were outside Boots.  The Heart Angels were also in Bristol Shopping Quarter entertaining children with face-painting and giant games and giving away chocolates and daffodils.  In addition they handed out some great offers from retailers in Broadmead and The Galleries.  This BID-funded activity was supported by a 2 week radio advertising campaign on Heart FM as well as ads and a competition in The Post & Metro.

Valentine's competition - February 2014

Three lucky people were given the chance to win some great prizes when retailers got together to provide great prizes for a Valentine's competition.  Customers were asked to tell us the most romantic thing they had done for their partner!  The competition was featured in The Post's Weekend magazine and on our Facebook page.  Prizes included a beautiful pendant from Parsons (worth £100), chocolates from Thorntons, 12 red roses from The Flowerman, lunch for 2 at Brasserie Blanc and goody bags from Consol.  In addition the BID funded a 'Love Bristol Shopping Quarter' ad campaign in The Post and Metro.

Outdoor store directories - February 2014

The BID team has recently updated these panels which show customers the range of shops we have in Bristol Shopping Quarter and help them to find their way around the shopping area.  The directories show all Broadmead stores as well as signposting The Galleries and Cabot Circus.

New shopping maps - February 2014

The Bristol Shopping Quarter maps which detail all of the retailers within the shopping area have been updated and re-printed.  Stocks have been given to the Tourist Information Centre, Cabot Circus information point as well as to local businesses and retailers.
