St James Arcade xmas event - November 2013

The BID was delighted to support this Christmas event which took place on Saturday 30th November.  Father Christmas came to visit all good boys and girls and customers were invited to browse the Christmas pop-up shop and to enter competitions to win some great prizes.

Return of the Christmas markets Nov / Dec 2013

November 8th saw the return of the German Christmas market to Broadmead. Unique gift ideas, original homemade crafts and German-themed food and drink like Glühwein, Bratwurst and Lebkuchen were all on offer. This market was joined by Bristol's Local market on 28th November.  The market will run until 22nd December.

Christmas lights switch-on event

The BID joint funded Bristol's Christmas lights switch-on event which took place at Cabot Circus.  Suzanne Shaw, playing Cinderella at The Bristol Hippodrome, switched on the lights after a dazzling show under the glass roof of the shopping centre.  The event was a great success drawing in more shoppers than for Christmas 2012.

Christmas leaflets - Nov / Dec 2013

BID funding contributed towards the production of Christmas leaflets - 50,000 were delivered locally in the Bristol area and a further 250,000 were distributed throughout the region (within a 2 hour drivetime).  The leaflets listed all Christmas events within Bristol Shopping Quarter and in Bristol city centre.

Bristol Post store campaign - September 2013

The BID team undertook a campaign with Bristol’s most influential newspaper, the Bristol Post, to support the unique, smaller stores in the shopping area. Bristol Shopping Quarter boasts over 80 such retail and food outlets. This campaign, which ran over three weeks in September, was a great opportunity for us to raise the profile of this exciting and diverse range of retailers, which bring greater individuality and personality to Bristol Shopping Quarter.

St James Arcade Fun Day - September 2013

The BID team were delighted to support the St James Arcade Fun Day on Saturday 21st September.  Customers were treated to music, entertainment, face-painting, a fun photo-booth and the chance to win some great prizes.  The event was promoted on Heart FM.  We're looking forward to seeing some new shops open in the near future too!

Facebook campaign- July / August 2013

This year the BID team has increased its use of social media, running a dedicated online marketing campaign. Many thanks to all of you who participated by providing a range of offers which customers could download from the Bristol Shopping Quarter Facebook page.  We will be evaluating the success of this campaign in early September.

Urban Beach at The Podium - July /August

From 20 July, customers will be able to relax at the urban beach at The Podium in Broadmead.  As well as sand and deckchairs, there will be lots of fun activities for the children and stall selling ice-creams, sweets and cocktails.  All the fun of the seaside brought to Bristol Shopping Quarter!

Welcome to our Welcome Hosts!

Our retailers suggested we trial Welcome Hosts in Broadmead to meet and greet customers, provide directions and information about the local shopping area.  Ana Crespo and Luke Mulloy will be out and about throughout July in their specially designed BID-branded uniform.  If successful, the Welcome Hosts may return at key trading periods in the future.

Gromit Unleashed - 1st July - 10 September 2013

80 giant Gromit sculptures have now arrived in locations throughout Bristol city centre.  We're delighted to have 6 within Bristol Shopping Quarter and hope that retailers will benefit from the additional footfall as customers visit them during the summer.   With world-wide interest, this will be an amazing event.

Mystery 'box' campaign - June 2013

Shoppers were mystified when a 'box' containing random items landed in Broadmead. For 2 weeks, customers were teased in a campaign in The Post which featured a '?'  The 'box' received lots of likes on Facebook(!) and the campaign culminated in an event at which one lucky person was invited to enter the box and grab as much cash as possible in a minute!

Heart FM 'In The Bag' promotion

BID funds paid for a 6 week campaign with Heart FM during May and June.  During 4 weekends, the Heart team gave away 6,000 Bristol Shopping Quarter branded shopping bags.  Customers were encouraged to upload photographs of themselves with their shopping bags for a chance to win £1,000.  This event was promoted on air throughout the region.

Covent Garden Tour came to Broadmead - May 2013

This proved to be a fantastic event for Broadmead.  BID funds paid for a visit from six internationally acclaimed street performers. On Thursday 30th May, customers were wowed by one of the world's best mime artists, an amazing escape artist, gannies riding shopping trolleys and much more!  The performances were promoted in The Post and in Metro.

Search for the Bristol Hunk - April /May 2013

Bristol Shopping Quarter partnered with The Bristol Post to search for the Bristol Hunk!  This BID funded campaign provided lots of fun for customers and ensured that we got lots of press coverage.  Our 'hunk' took part in two events in Broadmead, giving out 'Bristol Shopping Quarter' branded drinks and encouraging customers to enter a competition to win a shopping spree.

Breeze radio promotion - April 2013

Increasing our customer base remains a priority and this promotion saw 100 ladies from the Weston,  Bridgwater and North Somerset area invited to spend the day shopping in Bristol Shopping Quarter. They were asked to give feedback on their experience which will help us to establish whether there are any barriers or preconceptions which we need to address in order to encourage more visits from these areas.

Youth 'Weekender' Event - March 2013

In partnership with Heart and The Station (a youth project on the periphery of Broadmead), this event encouraged young people to register for freebies, money off vouchers and competitions.  Participating retailers displayed competition entry boxes in store and benefited from additional footfall.  The event was promoted on air for a two week period.

Bristol 'Dino Zoo' promotion - March 2013

The Bristol Zoo crew returned to the shopping area to promote their dinosaur exhibition. Andy Council, a Bristol street artist, attended to create some fantastic dinosaur art in Broadmead, which is now displayed at the zoo.  We will continue to work with local attractions to provide entertainment for our customers.

Easter Donkey Hunt - March 2013

Thirty retailers each displayed a donkey in their window which had been decorated by a local Bristol primary school over the Easter period. This successful event drove footfall around the area as children collected the names of the donkeys and then took part in craft workshops in The John Wesley Chapel.  Retailers are already looking forward to the next Easter hunt in 2014!

Mother's Day - March 2013

Retailers worked together to provide a great competition which ran in The Post. The prize comprised a package worth over £500 including designer glasses from Specsavers, a beauty package from Debenhams, lunch and dinner in Bristol Shopping Quarter and £150 shopping voucher.  The winner was delighted with the great customer service provided when she claimed her prize.

'Feel The Love' - February 2013

Our Valentine's event delighted customers, giving them the opportunity to have their photo taken with a David Beckham look-alike, to be serenaded by a crooner and to attend free pampering sessions in The Galleries.  The event was supported on air by Heart radio for 2 weeks beforehand and retailers were invited to take part and promote their stores on the day.
