Inspired by the Euros, Wimbledon, Rio 2016 Olympics and the Tour of Britain, Bristol Shopping Quarter is to host its own Summer of Sport
Bristol Shopping Quarter’s Summer of Sport will run from 1st to 27th August 2016 when the streets of Broadmead will play host to all manner of sporting activities including the very first Tour of Broadmead, a static cycle relay challenge that will benefit no less than EIGHT very good causes!
From 1st to 14th August there will be two Foosball tables outside The Arcade, home to several of Bristol Shopping Quarter’s most unique independent retailers and looking very smart following a recent rebranding. Shoppers will be able to play against family and friends or take part in an organised tournament.
On Saturday 6th August there will be a climbing wall at The Podium. Like all the Summer of Sport activities it will be free to use but donations to Bristol Shopmobility will be welcomed.
The following Saturday Matti Hemmings will present a series of BMX stunt shows and have-a-go workshops while on 20th August shopppers will be able to channel their inner beach boy or girl on a surf simulator. On the final day of the Summer of Sport, Saturday 27th August, Broadmead will welcome two sporting look-a-likes, offering plenty of photo opportunities, while children will be able to decorate new PE bags, ready for their return to school.
Broadmead will be a hive of activity throughout August with lots of exciting drop-in activities taking place that will all be completely FREE to take part in. The programme includes a fitness class with the instructors from Pure Gym; cycling related challenges from Cycle Republic; rowing with LinkAge; and much more.
Local clubs, groups and organisations have been invited to showcase their activities by performing displays and hosting workshops so that shoppers and their families can have a go and learn new skills. The timetable includes Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, boxing, tumbling, dance, cheerleading, and handball.
The Galleries, which has recently welcomed several new stores including The Entertainer, Boswells Coffee Shop, Wed2B, Slaters, Shaw Trust, The Fragrance Shop and Bonmarche, will be taking part in Bristol Shopping Quarter’s Summer of Sport too, with sporting activities on the ground floor each Wednesday from 3rd to 31st August and a beach on the middle floor where children will be able to build sandcastles while mums, dads, nans and grandads take a break. The ambitious fundraising event will benefit eight different organisations – LinkAge, Daz’s Rock4Charity, Headway Bristol, Creative Youth Network, St Mungo’s, Southmead Hospital Charity, T1Diabetes.info, and the West of England Centre of Inclusive Living (Wecil Bristol) – with retailers and shoppers alike invited to get on a bike and pedal for charity.
