Bristol city centre to light up with Cinderella fairytale this Christmas

Bristol Shopping Quarter will switch on its Christmas lights in theatrical style this year with a magical Cinderella themed event on Friday 8th November, marking the start of the festive season.

Shoppers in Cabot Circus will be treated to a dazzling performance combining acrobatics, dance, music and theatre as the countdown takes place – and the Christmas lights are switched on throughout the centre of Bristol.

At 5.30pm a magical procession will begin from The Galleries through Broadmead led by the storybook pumpkin carriage and prince charming who make their way to Cabot Circus. Crowds will then be treated to a spectacular show under the iconic glass roof which will be performed by acrobats from this year’s Circus Festival and will feature a range of exciting acrobatics where Cinderella laments her hardship before becoming the belle of the ball and illuminating the Christmas lights.

Stephanie Lacey, Cabot Circus Centre Director, commented: “This year we are bringing a magical fairytale to Bristol’s shopping quarter with a spectacular show to mark the start of the Christmas shopping season. We’re delighted to be working with the performers from Bristol’s very own Circus Festival and our Christmas lights event will provide excitement and theatre in the heart of the city, for all the family.”

John Hirst, Chief Executive at Destination Bristol said “Cabot Circus celebrated its fifth birthday in September and has really established itself over the last five years as a core part of Bristol, so it’s fitting that the launch of the festive season will again take place there.

“This year we also look forward to welcoming back the German and the local markets to the centre of Broadmead, all of which add up to a great festive atmosphere in the run up to Christmas”.

Bristol Shopping Quarter features over 500 shops and restaurants, combining Cabot Circus, Broadmead and The Galleries.

The Bristol City Centre Christmas Lights Switch-on takes place on Friday 8 November and the event will begin at 5.30pm at The Galleries, the switch on will take place at 6pm in Cabot Circus.
